Hello again, ladies… how did week one go for you? For me, it was definitely not easy to put some of my biggest fears out there, but it served to be quite satisfying at the same time. If you are just joining me on this journey, please click here to read last week’s post, to get an idea of what we went through in week one. For those of you who took on the ‘Me is She’ Challenge last week, you’ve already made moves to accept some of your fears, as well as realize that it is more than ok to be less than perfect. This was a crucial beginning to our journey, because accepting your fears is a big first step towards accepting who you are. No one is perfect, and it is sometimes hard to remember that. We all have flaws, which we will talk about as we move through the coming weeks, but fears are not flaws… they are a part of who you are and the first steps towards accepting yourself and loving what makes you – you.
Now, on to the next phase in our journey. This one will hopefully be a little easier, although I still consider it a ‘challenge.’ The focus this week is going to be on the opposite of fears. Rather, we are going to think about the things we can trust, the tried and true, the positive things in our lives. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, there is one more criteria to this task… we should not focus on the obvious. What is the obvious? Air, food, water, shelter. Yes, I know these are the major things that we could not live without, and we are indeed thankful for them. But, that is not what this exercise is about. I want your thoughts to drift to things in direct contrast to your fears, but NOT the obvious easy answers. Let me give you my example.
OK, here is a sneak peak to my first post to this challenge. In thinking about being thankful, I can name a multitude of things quite easily. I am thankful for my family, my home, my health, my job. And although I indeed take these things for granted at times, these are the obvious things I pray for in thanks, the things I name at the Thanksgiving table, and the things that come to mind first. However, what about the things that don’t come to mind every day or aren’t the ‘usual and customary’ items mentioned in thanks. Or, better yet, what are the things that we may be grateful for today that we may not have been before? Well, here’s mine… I am so grateful to the end of this school year, and even more specifically, the end to 6th grade math! Yes, I said it… seems superficial doesn’t it? Well, whether it is or not, I am grateful for the end to the nightmarish homeschooling experience that was forced upon me (even though it was necessary). You may or may not be able to empathize with me, but I can surely tell you that my elation is real. By Friday of this week, I may just have to purchase and! pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate the fact that I will no longer have to worry about long division, complex fractions, means and ratios! Oh yeah!… I am going to celebrate as if it were my birthday!
So, let’s get at it, ladies…
Step Two – Week Two: This week we are going to post daily (from Monday to Friday) at least one thing that we are grateful for. Let’s dig deeper as the week goes on, and think outside the box. What is different, what has changed in your life, or what is the same? One post per day, that’s all. If you post on Instagram, be sure to use #meisshechallenge, so we can share with one another. Or, feel free to comment here on this page, and share with just our group. (And although it is good to put these thoughts out there into the world, you can still take the challenge privately. Just write down your grateful posts in a small journal. Any notebook will do, or you can purchase a small diary to record your thoughts, such as a Daily Gratitude Journal or a Good Days Start with Gratitude Journal.)
Also, to stay tuned in, be sure to subscribe to my blog by entering your email here on this webpage, or visit my Facebook page and click ‘Join My List’.
Together, we are going to motivate and inspire each other… one day at a time.
