Although there are literally a million things I could write about, this pandemic and the current state of affairs is what remains on everyone’s minds… and on the tips of everyone’s tongues. No matter how a conversation may start off, it usually ends up including something related to our current crisis. So, as a continuation from my last blog, I have gathered information from different women regarding the challenges they’ve encountered during their quarantined days (and I even threw in some of my own). So, without further ado, here are…
The TOP 10 LOCKDOWN BLUES
Take a look below to see what your fellow women have said. Then, be sure to cast your VOTE in the survey below. The results will be revealed next week, along with tips to get through the TOP 3 of the lockdown blues! So, let’s get to it and start to wipe those blues away!
Are you saying to yourself “I can’t take it anymore?” If so, what is your biggest challenge while on lockdown?
- Broken sleep (or insomnia)! Although this may seem like a strange concept, especially when we are staying inside our homes more often than out; but in my world, this has been a constant challenge for me in recent days. In speaking with a number of women I know, it seems as if we are all encountering some form of sleeplessness… and it’s definitely not a result of a lack of work. We are still quite busy in the home (doing various things), but just can’t seem to settle down for a restful and peaceful 8 hours at night.
- Homeschooling! Or, school at home… or, online class… or, distance learning… or, assignment overload… or, stressful sessions… or, insane curriculum… or, ‘just figure it out’ instruction! Need I say more??
- No therapeutic shopping! Yes, just like many of you… I miss the mall. If you’ve read my previous blog Surviving Lockdown, you probably remember that one of my favorite destressors is to peruse the aisles of some of my favorite stores, like Sephora, Ulta or Chicos. However, I am seriously going through shopping withdrawal right now. (And, I think this is somehow contributing to #1.)
- Spouse or partner! What else is there to say about this one? You can’t leave them… and you can’t kill them.
- Too much baking (or eating, in general)! Some of us are eating more these days as a quest for comfort and to conquer boredom. Some are actually baking as an activity to share with their spouses, partners or kids. Either way, many are indulging much more than necessary… and this activity may be actually be contributing to #4.
- Anxiety &/or Fear! This one seems to exist right alongside the sleeplessness mentioned in #1. It is difficult to picture our world going back to any form of the normal that existed before Covid-19. The reality is that even with the prolonged time of these quarantines and extended lockdowns, we don’t feel any more secure than we did six weeks ago.
- No alone time! Have you hidden in the closet yet? Or tiptoed passed doorways, hoping that no one calls out to you? Have you pretended to be asleep, or really tired, or super involved in work, just to avoid a conversation or activity with those who live with you? No? …Well, you will.
- Too much alone time! Are you feeling isolated, missing being able to go out and about, mingle, or see family members whenever you want? If you feel you may be depressed, please refer to my blog on Depression with a few helpful tips, as well as links to resources. Please hang in there. And trust me, it will get better!
- Something else! Although we all have a lot in common, we also have our differences. So, maybe your top challenge isn’t one of these listed above. Please be sure to share in the survey what yours is. I want to include it in the results, and there are most likely others who indeed feel like you.
And last but not least…
- Completely at peace! Perhaps none of the above applies to you. And if that is the case, I absolutely & wholeheartedly applaud you! Kudos to you for being able to cope and maintain during this time of crisis. Please feel free to comment on the survey with tips and suggestions for the rest of us to learn from your success! As women, one of our greatest strengths is being able to come together and support one another, especially in a time of need. I encourage you to share your thoughts with us.
