How Do You Really Feel About Where You Are in Life Right Now?

Posted on March 22, 2021October 13, 2022 by tiarasandlipstick

Is your life working for you right now?  Are you comfortable with who you are and where you are?  These aren’t questions that should bring you down, but rather, they should motivate you and lift you up.  Taking time to reflect on your life as it is now and from where you’ve come, is an integral step in your growth process and it helps to set you up for success in the long run.  As difficult as it is to ask these questions of ourselves, they are necessary ones… if we want to promote change!

How do you feel about your life right now?

In speaking to women over time, I have heard their varied experiences in dealing with their own self-reflections.  Here are a few examples.  See if any of these sound familiar to you…

  • “When I looked in the mirror, I no longer recognized the woman looking back at me.”
  • “I am not the woman I once was.”
  • “I feel nervous or anxious about everything these days.”
  • “I don’t seem to like myself or who I have become.”
  • “I lost myself somewhere over the years, and now I am not sure who I am.”
  • “I am not the woman that I really want to be.”

It is at these moments that you have the most serious question to ask yourself… What are you prepared to do about it?  Uncovering the issues related to your negative feelings is important, and so is the plan towards making a positive change in your life.  The first step towards positive change is to believe that you can.  It’s called HOPE.

What many don’t realize is that you cannot live without hope!  Hope is the one thing that propels us forward, keeps us moving, challenges us and motivates us.  And our inner spirits are hungry for hope all of the time.  There is a natural, deep longing within you for the hope to be, and that feeling permeates every other aspect of your life.  It is something that stimulates the growth in our lives and in our hearts.

Look at yourself and your life; Is your life working for you right now?

Now, the opposite of hope is despair.  When there is no hope, there is no spirit of change, there is no desire to do better, there are no goals that have been set, and there is no vision of success.  Whatever it is that you have been through or experienced, it can haunt and taunt, until there is no longer a positive outlook on anything.  You have to fight those negative feelings and know that you are not a victim of your past. You may have done things you’re not proud of, you may have experienced things you wish you didn’t… But that is all behind you.  It does not define who you are, nor who you will become.

We all make mistakes, experience setbacks or discouragements in life, and some go through true hardships of failure and/or grief.  However, it is so important to get back up again and keep moving forward in hope. Hope springs into love, and that is something we also need in this life.  As I’ve mentioned before, loving yourself is key!

So, how do you regain the hope that once existed, or how do you find the hope that is needed?  You have to find your true purpose and own it!  We’ve talked about self-care, self-love and staying positive, but now it’s time for purpose.  It’s time for you to determine what you want to do in your heart, what you feel you have been called to do (what your purpose is).  And, if change is necessary in order to move toward that calling, then do so!  The reward of that change will be your sense of well-being, fulfillment and peace.

Step one in the process of determining your purpose is to try to make good choices every day, and live with a spirit of hope… that things will be better tomorrow… that your situation can turn around for the better… that there is love at the end of all that you do… and that your life can and will give you fulfillment and peace!

Reflection in the mirror

Do you have someone in your life who loves you enough to look at you and tell you what you need to hear?  To help you identify your calling?  To note what you need to change?  Be willing to embrace change when the opportunity comes, rather than making excuses that will keep you exactly where you are.  Change begins with the decision to change…  And hope is manifested from that change.

This post offers a beautiful word of affirmation for a decision I made yesterday to step away from a dual appointment as administrator and faculty member and return to teaching (higher ed) full-time in order to regain control over my calendar. I used to say, “I go wherever Outlook tells me to go” because I had so many meetings. Well, I’m firing Outlook and taking back my time.

Thank you for sharing! I am so glad this post resonated with you. Kudos to you for taking control, and congratulations on firing Outlook! There are so many women who want to do the same, but have yet to take the jump. I hope you enjoy your return to teaching (and no more meetings)! 😊💄
